According to the report released by the Ministry of Commerce, the cosmetics industry grows by 10 percent every year. The data reveal that this growth has doubled with the pandemic sector. In this sense, the world cosmetics market size, which is 550 billion dollars in 2020, is expected to reach 760 billion dollars in 2025.
Increasing exports improve products
The rise in exchange rates encourages consumers to buy domestic products. On the subject, Laber Organik General Manager Levent Kahrıman said, “The increase in exports while imports decrease is among the factors that make the cosmetics industry different. The efforts of cosmetics manufacturers to diversify their products, their R&D investments and their monitoring of world trends also play a major role in the decrease in imports. In addition, the rise in the exchange rate and additional taxes increase exports and play a role in the development of domestic product diversity.”
Kahrıman said, “Although habits have changed during the pandemic process and people have left their homes less frequently, the cosmetics sector, which has been growing every year, continued to grow in the last year as well. With the closure of stores in the early days of the pandemic, the demand for cosmetic products increased again with the introduction of disinfectant, soap and hygiene products online in e-commerce, and the industry revived.”
Turkey can make a breakthrough with organic agriculture
Noting that the organic cosmetics sector has grown by 10 percent worldwide, Kahrıman said, “Turkey is very rich compared to other countries in terms of the diversity of plants, which is one of the important inputs of the cosmetics sector. Obtaining these plants with organic agriculture will also be a very important gain for the sector. In addition, another point we focus on is sustainable cosmetics and sustainable cosmetic agriculture. In this sense, as a brand that attaches importance to sustainability and produces organic and vegan cosmetics, we export to 15 countries. In the coming years, we aim to export to 25 countries.”
