Pantene reunites with Pi Women’s Cancer Charity to support strong women battling cancer in the “Long and Strong Life” project. Within the scope of the project, which started with the aim of raising awareness on women’s cancers and the importance of early diagnosis, Pantene aims to continue to make more women feel good with strong hair, with wigs donated to women who lost their hair during the fight against cancer.
Pantene, which has undertaken projects and awareness movements about women’s cancers for many years, donated wigs to women who lost their hair during the chemotherapy process, a few years ago, in collaboration with the Pink Traces Women’s Cancers Association. Pantene and Pi Women’s Cancer Charity met at Ulus 29 to announce that the project, which has touched the lives of dozens of women, continues. At the event, moderated by Ayşe Arman, Ceren Tonguç, Vice President, Commercial Operations Beauty & Paper at Procter & Gamble, Arzu Karataş, President of Pi Women’s Cancer Charity, and Canan Ergüder talked about the importance of early diagnosis, women’s cancers and the donation campaign that touched the lives of hundreds of women. In addition, the video work prepared with the messages sent by women who had received wig donations before within the framework of the project was also shown at the event.
Talking about her own experience at the event, Canan Ergüder said, “When I was diagnosed with cancer, my first priority was to continue working as long as my treatment process allowed and to disrupt my current routine to a minimum. Although the process in which I continued to work did not last as long as I expected, since we were at the beginning of the pandemic process at the time of diagnosis, I devoted myself to my work as much as I could. Afterwards, the thing that gave me the most hope and kept my morale high during the treatment was, of course, the support I received from my family and loved ones. I can say that knowing that my wife and son were with me throughout my treatment was the biggest support for me.”
Arzu Karataş, President of Pi Women’s Cancer Charity, said, “Imagine, every year thousands of women start chemotherapy and after a while they lose their hair. However, hair has a very important place in women’s life in terms of feeling good and strong. The cancer treatment process, on the other hand, is a long process that requires staying strong, and during this period, women need to feel better and stronger. That’s why the beginning of hair loss makes the process more difficult for women struggling with cancer. “I felt like I had cancer when my hair fell out!” There are many women who say That’s how I felt too! He states that they fully understand that they have cancer when their hair falls out and they are forced to look in the mirror after their hair falls out. That’s why hair loss is more than just a visible change by women battling cancer, and it integrates with health and hope. I also want to thank Pantene for their support in this project.”
Regarding the participation of Pantene in the project, Ceren Tonguç, Vice President, Commercial Operations Beauty & Paper at Procter & Gamble, said, “As a hair care brand whose target audience is women, we are very aware of the importance of hair in women’s daily life and its impact on women’s self-confidence. We know to what extent even the hair that cannot be styled in the morning before going to work can affect a woman’s mood during that day. As we set out with these awarenesses, within the framework of this project, we aim to make every woman feel better when they look in the mirror by providing wig support to strong women who have received chemotherapy treatment until they regain their own hair.”
Ayşe Gençmazlum, one of the names who received wig support within the scope of this cooperation, said, “The wig helps a lot, first of all, to feel good about yourself, to support you in the process of getting used to that new look. There is a constant view that applies to the outward appearance of people undergoing chemotherapy. Even if you are not worried about your outward vision, at some point, anxiety begins with the looks from the outside. I think it’s a matter of protecting yourself rather than living for what other people think. That’s why wigs are so important to feel good about yourself in the first place.”
Within the framework of the Long and Strong Life project signed with the Pi Women’s Cancer Charity, Pantene plans to raise awareness about women’s cancers in Turkey by drawing attention to the importance of early diagnosis in the fight against women’s cancers. Thanks to the project, which has touched the lives of many women who have struggled with cancer since 2020, hundreds of women who lost their hair during the chemotherapy process will receive wig support until they regain their hair. The project, carried out jointly by PI Women’s Cancers Association and Pantene, which have been the biggest supporters of women battling women’s cancers during and after the treatment process since its establishment in 2014, will support strong women battling cancer and their families in 2022 with the slogan “Together We Are Stronger.”
